The word
"synod" means "to walk together." We are affiliated with
certain other Lutheran churches, organized into the Missouri Synod.
Our synod
is divided into districts; we are members of the Missouri District.
These seminaries train our pastors and offer classes to all
laypersons.
A
Lutheran is a person who believes, teaches, and confesses the truths of God's
Word as they are summarized and confessed in the Book of Concord.
This is
the basic teaching which Luther wrote for the head of the family to teach in
a simple way to his household. It contains a straightforward explanation of
what Lutherans believe, and is the basis for instruction in the Lutheran
faith.
